I’ve got a 2011 MacBook Pro, she works alright and I know it’s time for a new rig but I was hoping to ride this one until September. Here is an image of what the screen looks like.
I've been able to find my way through installing Mac OS lion but when it goes to load up or set itself up normally it estimates 26 minutes remaining and then shuts off the computer and restarts it which then loops back to the 26 minutes remaining bar. I've basically been trying to get this done by memory or random clicks on the screen.
The text distorts, the intractable buttons don't display, the menus do that follow-the-leader-esque thing that happens when you drag a window around and it creates a line of copies behind it. The problem I'm facing now is I can't boot into safe mode and whenever I try recovery mode the screen is wonky.
I tried to reset the hard drive through disk utility after following multiple guides and I think I was successful.
The battery was bulging so I took it out and have ordered another which is on the way. It eventually wouldn't start and was left in a closet since 2014. I recently dug out my sisters old Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" that she stopped using because it would shut itself down. I purchased this MacBook in late 2012.Further SMC and PRAM resets were unsuccessful. This was the last time I was able to log in successfully. Then I opened Photo Booth again, and it froze once again. I reset the SMC and PRAM a second time, and it was once again successful. I attempted a forced restart, and the progress bar again froze on me. About an hour later however I opened Photobooth (not out of suspicion, just randomly) and the computer froze solid. This gave me a short success! My Apple logo was smooth and gray once again, and the progress bar continued until it opened to my desktop. The next morning I cleared both the SMC and the PRAM. After about 35 minutes, I had a ‘No Trouble Found’ report: I removed the external USB drive and allowed Hardware Utility to run. Apple logo, frozen progress bar and eventually a white screen. I attempted to boot from that external drive and faced the same results. I already had a backed up copy of the MacBook’s SSD on an external USB drive. Eventually, this changed to an all-white (grey?) screen:Ī strange thing I’ve noticed (but have been unable to find mentioned anywhere online), is that my Apple logo was suddenly blue-toned and had horizontal lines going through it: Upon restart, the apple logo appeared, but the progress bar froze and I was unable to start the computer. I noticed the screen glitch out in a way I’ve never seen before, freeze up, and then it needed a force restart. Here are the events so far:Ībout a week ago I was transferring files from one USB hard drive to another, a common task as I’ve been working from home. The short of it is that my MacBook Pro with brand new RAM, new SSD, and new(ish) LOGIC board is still failing to boot up. My hours have been severely cut down due to Coronavirus and I’d LOVE to not buy a new laptop right now! I understand that this machine is quite old and that it might be officially dead, but I’d like to try resuscitating it or at least figuring out what the problem is. I’ve been fighting a bit of a battle with my Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" Unibody and at this point I’m out of ideas. EDIT: SOLVED! Find my remedy in the comments below.
